Madrasa teacher jailed for raping student in Sonagazi

A teacher of a Qawmi madrasa in Sonagazi, Feni has pleaded guilty to raping a 14-year-old madrasa student. The teacher testified under Section 164 in the court of Feni Senior Judicial Magistrate Farhana Lokman on Saturday afternoon.

The teacher’s name is Mostakim Billah (23). His home is in Dharmapur area of ​​Dharmapur union in Sadar upazila of Noakhali. He was arrested from a Qawmi madrasa in Mangalkandi union of Sonagazi on Friday night. Earlier, it was mentioned in the case that the incident took place in the room of the teacher inside the madrasa last Thursday night.

The vice-president of the board of directors of the madrasa filed a case against teacher Mostakim Billah at the Sonagazi Model Police Station under the Women and Child Abuse Prevention Act.

According to the case sources, Mostakim Billah called the student to his room last Thursday night and raped him. Although the student did not say anything to anyone for fear, the incident became known when the students discussed the matter among themselves yesterday morning. Later, other teachers, board of directors and guardians of the madrasa came to know about the matter.

The plaintiff said that after hearing the matter, the students were called one by one in the presence of the members of the board of directors including him and in the room of the headmaster of the madrasa. At least 10 students were reportedly tortured by Mostakim Billah at the time. After calling the accused teacher and asking about the incident in front of other teachers, Mostakim Billah confessed to raping several students. When the police was informed later, the police arrested the accused teacher from the madrasa and took him to the police station.

Sonagazi Model Police Inspector (Investigation) said. Abul Kashem told  that the student was produced before the Feni Senior Judicial Magistrate’s Court this afternoon. There he confessed to the incident and testified in court under section 164.
