‘Rickshaw Girl’ set to to premiere today in New York
Worldwide award-winning film ‘Rickshaw Girl’ is set to premiere at the famous movie theatre ‘Village East by Angelika’ on May 5, courtesy of Bioskope Films in Manhattan, New York.
Daring and determined, teenaged girl Naima longs to earn money for her poor Bangladeshi family, but her unrivaled artistic talent is of little use. When her father grows gravely ill, Naima feels she has no choice but to leave her small village for the bright lights of Dhaka.
In the big city, Naima finds the same economic, societal, and gender pressures faced by most young girls in Bangladesh. She cleverly disguises herself as a boy and takes the difficult job of a rickshaw puller. When her gender is revealed and her livelihood vanishes, Naima finds an unconventional solution to her problems.
The film “Rickshaw Girl” directed by one of Bangladesh’s most acclaimed directors Amitabh Reza based on the acclaimed novel by Mitali Perkins.
Director Amitabh Reza, executive producer Assaduzzaman Sokal, co-producer Mahjabin Reza, protagonist Novera Rahman, and Momena Chowdhury, alongside others, will be present at the Manhattan premiere.
Movie lovers present there will have the opportunity to meet the associated cast and crew members. The audience will also get the opportunity to participate in a Q&A session with the director.
‘Rickshaw girl’ features Novera Ahmed in the lead role. The film also stars Champa, Momena Chowdhury, Naresh Bhuiyan, Allen Shubro, and others. The screenplay was co-written by Naseef Faruque Amin and Sharbari Zohra Ahmed.
‘Rickshaw Girl’ has received critical acclaim and won awards in various film festivals, including the Prescott Film Festival in the United States and the SCHLiNGEL International Film Festival in Germany.
‘Rickshaw Girl’ is a joint production of Bangladesh and the United States. The producers are Ziauddin Adil, Faridur Reza Sagor, and Eric J Adams.
