55-yrs-old Belayet to sit for DU entry test
55-years-old Belayet Sheikh will sit for the Dhaka University admission test this year proving that age is just a number.
Belayet, who hails from Sripur Upazila of Gazipur, has three offspring— their first two study Bachelor’s Degree at a college and the youngest an SSC applicant.
He passed his Secondary School Certificate (SSC) exam in 2019 and Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) in 2021 and applied for the ‘Gha’ unit of Dhaka University. The test will be held on June 11.
Belayet’s family had to struggle with poverty dropping him out of his study. He was an SSC candidate in 1983. But, his family had to spend the money for the SSC exam’s ‘form fill up’ in his father’s medical treatment, he said.
However, Belayet did not stop. Again he took preparation for the examination in 1988 which was postponed due to the nationwide flood of the year. The last attempt Belayet took for passing SSC was in 1990-92 but later aborted due to his mother’s illness, added he.
In 2019, Belayet Sheikh passed Dakhail (equivalent to SSC) exam from Darul Islam Alim Madrasa at Basabo in the capital Dhaka while the HSC was accomplished from Mohanagor vocational college last year.
About the entry test, Belayet said, “I admitted to a coaching center in Mawna of Sripur in Gazipur. I am taking preparation for the test. I will sit for the entry test on 11 June at the age of 55. I seek help from the almighty and wish from all.”
