Chhatra Union leader Sadat found dead
Sadat Mahmud, the general secretary of a faction of Chhatra Union’s Dhaka city unit, has been found dead at his residence in the capital’s Dhanmondi area.
His family discovered him died on Wednesday afternoon. However, no specific reason behind the death was found.
They claimed that Sadat has committed suicide. But, they didn’t make any comment over the issue.
University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) expelled two students including Sadat in 2020, accusing them of ‘defaming the image of the university’ by participating in a movement that demanded 50 per cent waiver of tuition fees during the coronavirus pandemic.
When asked about Sadat Mahmud’s suicide, Anik Roy, central vice-president of a faction of Chhatra Union, said he was expelled from ULAB for being involved in a movement. This had put him in mental stress.
Despite trying hard to get admission in different universities for quite a long time, he failed to do so. His studies were held up for long. However, he had joined classes again after getting admission into Stamford university.
Sadat has been buried at Azimpur graveyard following janaza at the Dhanmondi’s Taqwa Masjid after the Esha prayers on Wednesday night.
