Shakib opens a new chapter in T20 record book

Bangladesh ace allrounder Shakib Al Hasan added another feather to his illustrious career, by scripting yet another unique record during his side’s second T20 game against West Indies at Windsor Park in Dominica on Sunday.

Although Bangladesh lost the game by 35 runs, Shakib battled lonely to hit an unbeaten 68 off 52, which made him the second Bangladeshi batter to reach the 2000 runs milestone in this format after Mahmudullah Riyad.

However, after reaching the 2000 runs milestone, he became the only player on this planet to score 2000 runs and take 100 wickets simultaneously in the shortest format of cricket. He has currently 2005 runs and 120 wickets in 98 matches.

It’s a record to envy as he opened a new chapter in this format as he did in the 2019 Men’s 50-over World Cup in which he became the only player to hit 600 (606 runs) plus runs and take 10 (11wickets) plus wickets.

He, however, is the only player in 50-over World Cup history with 1000 plus runs and 30 plus wickets.

While his record is envious, he is currently also the highest wicket-taker in the T20 format with 120 wickets. His tally of 2005 runs is second highest amongst the Bangladeshi batter with captain Mahmudullah Riyad topping the
list with 2021 runs.

Shakib, however, could get past Mahmudullah in becoming the highest run-getter for Bangladesh in this format if he continues this form.

Shakib also has 10 half-centuries in the T20 format, which is the highest amongst Bangladeshi batters, with Tamim Iqbal in second place with seven fifties.
