One look at the newly released Darlings teaser and we’re convinced that not watching the film would be a disservice to our Bollywood-loving selves. From the teaser dropped by the makers, one can sense that Alia’s ‘Budru’ and Vijay’s ‘Gaurav’ are in a relationship. Although it seems rocky, the duo decide to get married and start a life together. Shefali’s ‘Rukhsar’, who is Budru’s mother, is obviously overjoyed with her daughter’s decision.

Alia Bhatt’s acting skills and a glittering starcast

While the teaser looks extremely promising in comparison to many current releases, we’re convinced solely based on the credibility of the actors in this project. Shefali Shah, Vijay Varma, Roshan Mathew and Alia Bhatt have all proven their mettle in several previous projects. So much so, even their film selection assures audiences that we’re in for a great movie.

However, the teaser does have a Gully Boy x Raazi feel to it, with Alia’s character appearing to be a culmination of Safeena’s guts and Sehmat’s courage. The nuances—a lisp in her pronunciation, a slightly unpolished dialect—all point to a mix of her previous characters. Yet, despite the critique, we’re convinced that Alia’s craft has only gotten better with time.

It marks Alia Bhatt’s debut outing as a producer

Directed by Jasmeet K. Reen, the film is a gripping murder mystery helmed by an award-winning ensemble cast. Taking us into suburban Mumbai, Darlings essentially looks at an unconventional mother-daughter duo who stand witness to a number of bizarre incidents. The film has been produced by Red Chillies Entertainment and Alia Bhatt’s Eternal Sunshine Productions. It also marks Alia’s debut as a producer. Darlings is slated to release on Netflix on August 5.
