Five dead as bus collides with auto-rickshaw in Gazipur
Five people have reportedly been killed in a head-on collision between a passenger bus and a battery-powered auto-rickshaw at Mokkhibathan area under Kaliakair upazila in Gazipur. The incident occurred around 11pm Saturday night.
The deceased were identified as Nazrul Islam (32), an auto-rickshaw driver hails from Tangail, Mehedi Hasan Bablu (45), of Angarpara village in Borguna, Atikul Islam (43), of Hijoltolee village, Saidul Islam Rubel (27) of Latifpur village under Kaliakair upazila and Shahin Uddin (28) of Dohor village under Magura upazila in Jashore.
A bus of Itihas Transport leaving Kaliakair collided head-on with the auto-rickshaw at around 11pm last night. The auto-rickshaw skidded off the road after a big blast. Two people including the auto-rickshaw driver died on the spot while three others sustained injuries, police said.
Locals rescued the injured survivors and rushed them to Kaliakair upazila health complex where the on-duty physician pronounced one person dead and the other two deceased succumbed at Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Memorial KPJ hospital.
The bus was sieged; however, the driver is traceless, said Sub-inspector Rahat Akanda of Kaliakair police station. Legal actions are underway, added he.
