Teesta flows above danger level in Nilphamari

The water of the Teesta River is flowing 10 cm above the danger level at Dalia point of Nilphamari district. It is feared that flood situations may rise again in remote areas as the river water has crossed the danger level.

Dalia Water Development Board water surveyor Nurul Islam said Teesta water was flowing 2 cm below the danger level at 6am on Monday while flowing over 10 cm above the danger level at 3pm.

Residents of Baish Pukur area said that water entered this area twice before and caused extensive damage. There was panic among the people as water started entering the area again in the morning.

Dimla upazila`s Tepakharibari UP chairman Moinul Islam said they had asked the people of riverine areas to be careful. People living in low-lying areas had been asked to evacuate if the water continues to rise.

Nilphamari Water Development Board (Dalia Division) executive engineer Asfaud Daula said the situation was being monitored. All (44) sluices of the barrage had been opened to control the water.
