BNP activists assault Desh TV journalist terming them pro-AL
A group of BNP activists allegedly swooped on a repoter and a cameraperson of Desh TV when they were covering a rally organised by the party’s Dhaka south city unit at a field near ZH Sikder Women’s Medical College Hospital in Dhaka on Monday.
The victims are the private TV channel’s senior journalist Md Anwar Hossain and cameraman Delwar Hossain.
The rally was scheduled to start at 3pm and the party leaders and activists started to gather at the meeting venue in small groups chanting slogans.
When the duo approached them, asking their political identity, the latter first verbally abused Anwar and Delwar.
Calling them pro-Awami League agents, the BNP activists finally started to beat them up.
Anwar condemned the attack and demanded that the perpetrators be brought to justice.
Meanwhile, several journalist bodies and leaders expressed their resentment and concern over the incident, with senior Awami League leaders Mahbubul Alam Hanif and Jahangir Kabir Nanak, among others, also condemning it.
