Developing the Blue Economy through sustainable marine resource management (Bangladesh) symposium held on 6-7th March at SIMEC Institute of Technology, Uttara, Dhaka.

Rear Admiral (Retd) Md. Khurshed Alam, Secretary, Maritime Affairs Unit, Ministry of Foreign Affairs was the Chief Guest, The Guest of Honor Rear Admiral (Retd) Md. Khaled Iqbal, Ex-Vice Chancellor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Maritime University(BSMRMU), The special guest Dr. Sacha Blumen, First Secretary, Imam Nahil, Program Manager, Development Corporation Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Australian High Commission of Bangladesh and Dr. Tahmina Rashid, Country Program Manager, Australia Awards-Bangladesh were presence at the Symposium on 6th March.

Ex-Principal Secretary to the HPM & Vice Chairman of iDEA Foundation Md. Abul Kalam Azad has joined the Networking Dinner session as the Guest of Honor.

19 government officials including Additional Secretaries were the participants in the symposium. Prof. Dr. Richard Bawden, Dr. Zubaida Parveen Patwary, Tami Harriott, Nastaran Hadidi joined on Zoom from the University of Sunshine Coast, Australia and Dr. Ratan Kumar Roy who is the Chief Coordinator of International Research Center of SIMEC Institute joined from London.

First Panellists A.T.M. Mostafa Kamal, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock, Dr. Fahmida Khanom, Joint Secretary & Focal Point (Blue Economy Cell), Ministry of Defence and (Retd) Commodore Sheikh Mahmudul Hassan, Former Bangladesh Navy Chief Hydrographer & Ex-Dean, Faculty of Earth and Ocean Sciences, BSMRMU discussed on “Navigating the complexity of policy making in the Blue Economy; system perspective.” Later the second Panellists Mahbooba Panna, Additional Secretary, Bangladesh Parliament Secretariat, (Retd) Captain Mohammed Ali Chowdhury, Bangladesh Navy, Ex-Coordinator, Blue Economy Cell, Energy & Mineral Resources Division and Sultana Afroz, Former Secretary, and CEO, PPPA, Prime Minister’s Office discussed on “Underutilised Investment Mechanism; Public Private Partnership.”

Honourable Chairman of SIMEC Group Engr. Sardar Md. Shaheen expressed his heartfelt gratitude to all guests for their kind presence. He specially thanked Md. Abul Kalam Azad to grace the occasion being the Guest of Honor.

Mr. Azad said, We, iDEA and SIMEC are doing a great job jointly in developing the Blue Economy, Sustainability, Smart Financing and Women Empowerment” in Bangladesh. He advised to build a Blue Economy Network among the participants who successfully completed a course on the Blue Economy from the University Of Sunshine Coast, Australia.
