‘Hello police… I’m a thief, please arrest me’

A thief on Tuesday called police and asked to save him after he went inside a shop in the capital to commit a theft.

“Hello, is this police control room? I entered a shop to commit a theft. People around here learned about the matter. They will kill me by beating me. Please send police personnel to Khanka Road and arrest me as soon as possible,” the thief requested police on a phone call.

The thief named Hridoy told police on a phone call to the national emergency service hotline 999 from inside a shop near the passport office on Khanka under Kadamtali Police Station in the capital around 4:15 am.

Inspector Md Anwar Sattar, public relations officer of the 999 emergency service, confirmed the matter on Tuesday afternoon.

Sattar said, “The police station concerned was immediately informed and requested to take steps as soon as possible after receiving the call from the thief named Hridoy. On information, a team from the Kadamtali Police Station rushed to the spot and rescued Hridoy while the locals started beating him. Hridoy was, later, brought to the police station after giving primary treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital. He was produced before a court after filing a case against him with the police station in this regard.
