Shakib Al Hasan ruled out of T20 series against Pakistan

Bangladesh’s star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan will not be available for the upcoming T20 home series against Pakistan due to a hamstring injury, said Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) Saturday.

In a statement, the country’s cricket board said that Shakib Al Hasan needed three weeks to recover from the hamstring injury.

Earlier on October 31, Shakib Al Hasan had been ruled out of the T20 World Cup with a hamstring injury, the country’s cricket board had said.

Shakib suffered a grade 1 hamstring injury during Bangladesh’s third Super 12 game of the ICC T20 World Cup against the West Indies on October 29 and was ruled out from their last two games against South Africa and Australia.

After the T20s, Bangladesh will play a two-match Test series against Pakistan that will start on November 26 at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram and Debashis feels that Shakib will be fit to play that series from the start.

“Shakib will take at least three weeks to recover and get back to the field. He might be able to play the Test series,” BCB’s chief physician.

Pace bowling all-rounder Mohammad Saifuddin could also miss the T20I series against Pakistan while wicketkeeper-batsman Nurul Hasan is expected to recover from his abdominal injury and be available for the whole series, said Debashis.

‘Saifuddin will have to stay away from the field for six weeks. There is no doubt regarding the availability of Nurul Hasan.’

Saifuddin was ruled out of the T20 World Cup following Bangladesh’s first Super 12 game against Sri Lanka due to a recurring back injury. Pacer Rubel Hossain had replaced the all-rounder.

Nurul picked up his injury while batting in the nets ahead of the second game against England, which he played despite the pain but couldn’t take part in the rest of the tournament.

Bangladesh are scheduled to play the three T20Is against Pakistan at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on November 19, 20 and 22 respectively.

After the first Test in Chattogram, the teams will return to Dhaka for the final Test staring on December 4.
