Hearing on post of Zayed-Nipun over, order likely today

A hearing has been held on the rule of the High Court in the dispute between the actor Zayed Khan and the actress Nipun Akhter over the post of general secretary of the Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC). Following the hearing, the court has fixed Wednesday (March 2) for the order. The virtual hearing was held on Tuesday (March 1) in a bench of Justice Mamnoon Rahman and Justice Khandaker Diliruzzaman.

Nipun’s lawyer Barrister Md. Mostafizur Rahman Khan said, “A court hearing has been held today. The court has fixed Wednesday for the order. However, a partial hearing may be held on Wednesday before the order.”

Earlier, a hearing was scheduled for Monday (February 28) but he did not appear in court on that day. As a result, there was no hearing in this regard. The election for the term of 2022-24 of the Bangladesh Film Development Corporation was held on 28 January.

As a result, Zayed Khan was declared the winner of the post of General Secretary. Opposing candidates later accused Nipun of influencing the election, including buying votes with money. They even demanded re-election to the post.

The Appellate Board of the Artists’ Association sat in the FDC on the afternoon of February 4 to decide whether the post or candidature of Zayed Khan would be canceled in view of Nipun’s application. Then the chairman of the board, Sohanur Rahman Sohan, announced Nipun as the general secretary. Meanwhile, Zayed Khan claimed that the decision of the Appellate Board was ‘illegal’.

As a result, on February 7, Zayed appealed to the High Court challenging the validity of his candidature in the board. The High Court stayed the decision of the Appellate Board on the same day. Nipun’s lawyer then applied to the concerned branch of the Appellate Division on February 8 seeking stay of the High Court order.
